FAQ

Q. What is a VPN?
A. It is an acronym  for a Virtual Private Network which is a way for you to access the internet via our servers with complete anonymity and security. When you connect to our service, your PC will create a secure connection, known as a tunnel, to one of our secure servers which then forwards your data onto the Internet having picked up the IP address of the server. Once connected, all your Internet activity is performed through this tunnel, meaning any sites or services you connect to only see the connection coming from our server.
Q. What is a an IP address?
A. Every computer is given a unique ip address which identifies it on the .internet. When you connect via our VPN your computer picks up the ip address of our UK based server
Q. Why would I need to change mine ?
A. UK TV services are geo-blocked to those accessing them from outside the UK. Picking up a UK based ip address means you can access live UK TV and catch-up services such as BBC Iplayer, 4OD, ITV Player and Demand 5.
Sometimes Internet Service Providers block the ports used for VOIP applications such as Skype. Using a VPN service enables you to bypass these restrictions
Wireless hotspot areas in airports, restaurants and hotels are open to abuse by people scanning for personal information. Using a VPN encrypts your internet traffic to such an extent that no-one can do this
Q. Does it replace my broadband?
A. No it is a secondary connection. You must first be connected to your broadband and then to the VPN
Q. Will it speed up my broadband?
A. No - you need a high speed broadband internet connection to stream TV. We recommend a minimum of 2mbps when routed to the UK. You can test this by going to www.speedtest.net and selecting a UK server to test against. Because your internet traffic is routed through our server in the UK and then back to you the VPN is likely to slow your basic speed down by 20-30%. Our server has a 100mb connection to the internet with bandwidth set at 5mb for connections. You cannot benefit from the full speed unless your basic speed is faster than 5mb
Q. Is it legal?
A. Yes, completely 100% legal. You are not buying re-broadcast transmissions - just a connection to one of our servers. You do not need a TV licence to watch the catch-up services only if you watch live TV
Q. Is it easy to set-up?
